Charities we support

USPG and Mission to Seafarers are the two Christian charities St Nicholas has particular interest in supporting. Two annual events, the Shrovetide Supper party and a summer barbecue raise funds to be shared between them. We have been able to welcome a speaker from Mission to Seafarers to speak at our Sea Sunday service on two occasions and many woolly hats have been knitted by parishioners. As a member of the Wells Churches Together, we also support Christian Aid with a variety of fundraising and awareness raising events.

Fairtrade

We are proud to be a Fairtrade Church in a Fairtrade Town! This means that we have agreed to use Fairtrade tea and coffee after services and in all meetings. We aim to use other Fairtrade products where possible. We also promote Fairtrade during Fairtrade Fortnight.

Our Churches Together in Wells established the Wells Action for Fairtrade group some years ago, successfully winning the support of the Town Council, local cafés, the Library and other outlets.

Working directly with businesses, consumers and campaigners, Fairtrade is making a real difference to the lives of more than 1.65 million farmers and workers in 74 developing countries helping to combat poverty and secure sustainable livelihoods.

We actively support Fairtrade because we wish to live out Micah’s prophesy as best we can:

‘What does the Lord require of us: to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with our God’ Micah 6:8

Foodbank

St Nicholas is always open for people to call with supplies for our Foodbank collection. These are collected monthly and taken to the Trussell Food Banks at Wells Cottage Hospital or Fakenham. This is organised in conjunction with the Wells Churches Together.
